Driving without any brake lights – By Mr. MC

Friday, March 4th, 2011

My 20 years old car recently has all of its brake lights stopped working. After being initially diagnosed by my mechanics, the bulbs are all good, but the circuits is bad somewhere, and it will require a few hours of labor to figure out the issue. So, I have not let my mechanics do further test on my car yet.

Then, I have been driving this car without any brake lights for a few months, and I quickly realize how other drivers react when I brake in front of them without my brake lights on. For most of the drivers on the road, they are pretty good and experienced that they do not rely on my brake lights to figure out that they need to stop or slow down. I do realize some or a small portion of the drivers almost, I said, “almost”, rear ended my car.

Well, I think it may cost $300 just to diagnosis this brake light circuit issue, and I will have to fix this when I get a fix-ticket or an accident (hopefully not !!!)….

Right turn can be dangerous if… – By Mr. MC

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

This evening while I was on Whipple Rd, Hayward, CA. A car at my right was trying to make a right turn onto Hwy 880 southbound. The driver was NOT able to see any oncoming traffic from her left since her eyes were blocked by the direct sunlight. I saw her waited patiently even there were no oncoming cars, she could not see anything. I have a feeling that she was making guesses regarding the traffic condition. I guess she guessed it right when she stepped on the gas pedal and made a right turn. She was lucky that there were no oncoming cars. Remember, it was Hayward, CA. There are many big trucks, and vans, and crazy drivers like myself (ha ha…)! Anyway, before she made that right turn, she even double check her front to make sure her front is cleared for her right turn. She is an experienced driver. Not like what I did 15 years ago in Cupertino, CA where I rear-ended a car in front of me while I was attempting to make a right turn.
