Avoiding heavy traffic on Hwy 101 northbound -x- Hwy 85 – By Mr. MC

Friday, October 15th, 2010

To avoid heavy traffic from Hwy 85 northbound going to Hwy 101 northbound, I find out other route different from the route I described in previous blog post which is to exit at Moffett Blvd from Hwy 85 northbound, and then, right turn on Moffett Blvd, and going back on Hwy 101 northbound. Keep right, and exit Shoreline Blvd, and follow the exact same route I described from previous blog post.

Hong Kong drivers seem to be polite, but actually not! – By Mr. MC

Friday, October 8th, 2010

My previous blog post “How to Drive Aggressively and Safely”does not apply to countries like Hong Kong. Most drivers in Hong Kong are polite, they signal before turning, and they give polite hand signals and etc. But, they won’t yield for drivers who are trying to merge in front of them. They do their best NOT to let them merge in front of them. If you signal, and indicate that you wanted to merge in front of them, they would try to move forward as much as possible so that their bumpers are less than one inch from the car to their front. And, you simply cannot merge in until someone nicer or less aggressive behind let you in. If you still cannot merge in, you have to continue driving to use other route, and it will usually take a longer path.

Rented a Dodge Caravan from Avis in San Francisco SFO airport – By Mr. MC

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

When I came back from Hong Kong to San Francisco airport at SFO, I rented a Dodge Grand Caravan from Avis. It was expensive since it is US$150 per day (include tax, fee, and everything). However, I was impressed by its semi-auto transmission. It has the following gears: P, R, N, D, + and -. The + and – allows you to drive it like a manual transmission. From D gear, you may move the stick to -, and it will be at the 1st gear (i.e. Gear 1 is shown). Then, you may move the stock to + to shift up one gear from 1 to 4, then, to D gear.

Four parking garages, but they were all FULL by 10:30 AM Sunday – By Mr. MC

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

I was here for brunch with my family this morning (Oct 3rd, 2010 Sunday). Although there are 4 parking garages, all 4 were full by 10:30 AM. So, I have to park outside this restaurant, and I have to keep checking for cops. One parking ticket is like US$40 – $50.
